Most Canadian Rockies blogs are affiliated with local businesses or tourism organizations, but there are a few written simply for the sake of it. These are our favourites in all genres.

Canadian Rockies Hiking Blogs

We are partial to the Canadian Rockies Hiking Blog, which is  authored by our own Brian Patton, but ask any other local and I’m sure they’ll tell you the same thing—no one knows more about Canadian Rockies hiking or is as enthusiastic about it than Patton.

The Kananaskis Blog is dedicated to hiking in Kananaskis Country, and as authors of the popular Kananaskis Trail Guide series, Tony and Gillean Daffern are well qualified to keep you up to date with the local trail system.

Canmore-based Kathy and Craig Copeland are the authors of the Don’t Waste Your Time series of hiking books and you can be assured that their Hiking Camping Blog is just as opinionated (although the topics of discussion are often related to hiking in other parts of the world).

The Waterton Blog started out over a decade ago dedicated to scrambling in Waterton Lakes National Park, but has regular posts on a variety of outdoor Waterton topics, including hiking trail conditions.

Family-Friendly Canadian Rockies Blogs

Drink Play Love is the work of well-known Calgary writer Lisa Kadane, whose blog focuses on her own experiences raising a family (that spends lots of time in Canadian Rockies), with a regular Drink of the Week to put her busy life in perspective.

Calgary mom Tanya Koob blogs at Rockies Family Adventures. Posts are on the long side—and the large photos take a long time to load—but for anyone visiting the region with kids, her posts offer up some great seasonal advice on what to see and do in the Kananaskis area and beyond.

Adventurous Parents is a blog headed by Meghan Joy Ward, a Banff-based writer who uses the medium to chronicle her young family’s travel, which includes many adventures in the Canadian Rockies.

Canmore-based Mike Kerr is one of North America’s leading authorities on how to create healthier and more inspiring work environments. He has authored a number of books on the subject and is popular as a speaker at events around the world. His blog is Humor at Work Blog

Environmental activist and author of seven books, Stephen Legault, who lives in Canmore, blogs about everything from Buddhism to photography on his website.

Tourism Blogs

Jasper Tourism keeps posts short and to the point on their Jasper Travel Blog. If you’re planning a trip to Jasper, it’s a good place to find out about upcoming events, but goes beyond the ordinary tourism blog with guest pots.

Like most tourism companies, Jasper Raft Tours use the medium to promote their own business, but the The Jasper Raft Tours Blog also has a regular supply of useful information about things to do in Jasper National Park posts interesting videos of local wildlife.

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is all about conservation and creating protected land across Canada. The CPAWS Blog has a variety of well-credentialed contributors who often discuss issues about the Canadian Rockies.
